Of Frugality (consumerism, materialism, over consumption)

In today’s society, where is the line crossed between need and human right, in opposition to blatant greediness and superfluity (in regard to material possessions?) Most resistance to covetousness or materialism originates from religion and societal activists. Most religions, Buddhism as an example, believe material possession interferes with a person’s piety, and that it leads to an unholy lifestyle. Also, activists believe that materialism leads to acts of war, poverty, and crime.
There is a theory referred to as “Maslow’s hierarchy of Needs,” which basically claims that you cannot fulfill higher needs in a hierarchy until you satisfy lower needs, such as breathing, food, water, employment, self-esteem, and lack of prejudice. This is similar to the theory of Post-Materialism, which describes the freedom of societies and people from materialistic needs. Both of these stating you cannot gain happiness from possessions, or consumerism. Consumerism literally defined as “The theory that a progressively greater consumption of goods is economically beneficial. 3. Attachment to materialistic values or possessions: deplored the rampant consumerism of contemporary society.” (The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language) The generation of today is often referred to as a consumer culture, with media often linking with social control and cultural domination. While this being said, libertarians would argue that consumerism leads to elitism, and that nobody has the right to decide what and how much material possession is necessary for any person but that person themselves, and that consumerism itself in human nature.
Another downside to consumerism is eventual consumer debit, or outstanding consumer credit. Although all debt is considered to be not a good thing, some argue that debt is necessary for the growth of economy. The difference between these is more pf a personal value thing, as opposed to fact, although when credit is plentiful and easy to obtain, the increase in demand causes an increase, creating more job opportunities, better economy, and so on. Although this is true in the United States, credit debt is virtually unheard of in places such as China and Japan, mostly because their economy is not as “strong,” as the United States, although you could argue that China/Japans economy is in a sense stronger, looking at the gross federal debt of the US.
While not only material goods are over consumed, the over consumption of energy is also a problem which is a concept related to over population, and the diminishing amounts of fossil fuels that are widely used even with the information on it’s relativity to global warming well know. This problem is especially predominant in the USA, for while China has 4.7 times more of a population than the US, it still consumes only half the energy consumed by the USA.
The United States is the number one contributor to Global Warming (destruction of earth,) and has the highest Nation gross Debt in the Universe. One has to think this has something to do with the government’s quality of life and over consumption of material goods, fossil fuels, and obsession with Money. The consumerism and extreme support given to media and materialism in America makes it the number one cause of most frugality based happenings, and an ultimate consumer society.

Saturday I was really unbelievably depressed for NO REASON, and it sucked major asshole. But OHWELL.
ALTHOUGH, yesterday was so good. Calyne and Sam slept over, and it was so fucking good. And it became five AM in like TWO MINUTES, but whatever. And then we made crafty things with a certain coke zero can, oh boy, it was majestic. And it took forever to figure out how to transport them from here back to their house, but we figured it out, and some black taxi man picked them up, woo.

I had SO MUCH PIZZA too, oh my god. So much pizza. I was soo full. And I went to Borders alot this weekend, which was good, and I read the new FMA Manga(#11) and saw really lame kids being assholes in the Literature section, and I was like DIE GROW A MUSTACHE OR SOMETHING because I couldn't concentrate and read this book that looked really cool. It had clouds in the cover.

I feel skinny too, I lost weight. I have to go to the doctors on friday to get my malaria shot for when I go to Habitat For Humanity in march for Mterm (in guatamala,) and I'll probably get weighed during then, and it'll be good, because when I get weighed at the doctors office my mom freaks out unless I"ve lost weight since the previous doctors weigh in, which I have, and it's basically just because she's DUMB, but whatever.

I have alot of acne going on right now. Not REALLY, but for me I do, because I usually have pretty clear skin. I HATE acne, and dandruff. Thank god I dont have dandruff. Ughh, just typing it makes me gag.

It's 12:18 on Sunday, why am I not sleeping?

Mostly because I LOST MY PHONE asdjhakjfds, and it's the only means of my telling time when I'm in my room, and on Sundays I wake up, look at the time, and if it isn't like, two in the afternoon, I go back to sleep. But today isn't like other days, in the sense that I could be doing stuff but chose not to, because I want(ed) to do arty things, but I have no ride to like any STORES, so fuck that. I'll just be entertainless and artless.

Yesterday Night was David Kaners party, which was really mellow and chill. We played with cups, oh boy. Caidence was over trying to be sexy, again. Sylvia was chill, she was really jonesing, and it was funny. David was hilarious because he just is, everyone else was there, just. Lorcan's cute though, and Billy is a retard, but in a good way.

Yesterday MORNING I hung out with Emily and Billy for a couple of hours, and we attempted to watch the best movie ever, Gypsy 83 for free again, but failed miserably.
Fuck you internet.

Friday I had a basketball game, and I got a basket, and then danced, and looked retarded. But whatever, cock.
Then I went to Emily's (After going home really stealthily and taking a shower) and Calyne was there, and we DID watch Gypsy 83 for free, on the internet, succesfully, and it was amazing because it's the best movie ever, litterally. So is EMILY, EMILY is the best movie ever. No, no!! Emily is the coolest friend in the UNIVERSE who happends to live in the City, and it sucks, AND she goes to school with this guy, who id insanely cute and nice and funny and strongly opinioned in the areas of polotics and like, the global condition, and I'm jealous, but it's good beacuse he's coming out next weekend and Emily Anderson and I are most likely chilling, which is in itself pretty chill. He's also an amazing writer, and named anderson, which is a good name.
